Joan Ribes Grau was the founder of the firm. He was born in 1876 in Serós, a little village in the province of Lleida. At the age of 16 he moved to Barcelona where he started working as an apprentice in Casa Coma, a fabric stiffening company. With the gained experience, in 1916 he decided to run his own business, a small workshop in Valencia street in Barcelona. Little did he imagine that 100 years later his idea would still be a successful business.
Ten years later
When his eldest son, Mateo Ribes Viladomiu, joined the company it was relocated to América street in the district of Sant Martí de Provençals. A little later, his other son, Joan Ribes Viladomiu also joined the firm.
That was the start of a prospering period that led up to becoming a highly renowned business in footwear counters with registered patents numbers 91747 and 183456 for “the union of fabrics, papers and fibrous laminar elements in general”.
Mr. Joan Ribes Grau, the founder died in 1954 and his successors changed the business name to the one that still remains: “Hijos de J. Ribes Grau, SL”. In 1955 Joan Ribes Estopà joined the company and decided to make a decisive shift towards fabric dying and eventually leading the company to its present activity of commission dyer. In 1980 Joan Ribes Boned, founder’s grandson, joins de company and commits himself to its technical management.
1985 Key date
A new and modern facility of 6.000 m2 was built to update the business. We are now the 4th generation working more than a century later to offer our customers the best service with the maximum quality.
